 Preliminary Information
School Board Meeting Procedures
Community members are encouraged to attend school board meetings. We ask that you fill out a "Record of Participation" card (which is available at the meeting) and turn it in to a staff member prior to the item on the agenda you wish to discuss. This ensures that the president of the Board can divide the available time so that all those interested can speak. The YELLOW speaker card is for specific items already on the agenda.
Visitor Non-Agenda Items: Each agenda also contains a "Comments from Audience" section to allow public comment on items NOT listed on the agenda. The BLUE speaker card is for this section. By law, trustees may not enter into discussion nor take action on may item not previously published on the agenda.
Because school board meetings are televised, we ask speakers to come to the podium and identify themselves before speaking.

School Board Meeting Procedures
No action or discussion shall be undertaken on any item not appearing on the posted agenda, except that members of the legislative body or its staff may briefly respond to statements made or questions posed by persons exercising their public testimony rights under Government Code 54954.3. In addition, on their own initiative, or in response to questions posed by the public, a member of a legislative body or its staff may ask a question for clarification, make a brief announcement, or make a brief report on his or her own activities. Furthermore, a member of a legislative body, or the body itself, subject to rules or procedures of the legislative body, may provide a reference to staff or other resources for factual information, request staff to report back to the body at a subsequent meeting concerning any matter, or take action to direct staff to place a matter of business on a future agenda.
